Literacy Academy Collective
Literacy Academy Collective (LAC) is a New York City-based nonprofit dedicated to treating access to literacy as a civil rights issue. Founded in 2019, LAC partners with NYC public schools, families, community-based organizations, and higher-ed institutions to deliver evidence-based, culturally relevant structured literacy instruction for students facing barriers such as dyslexia, poverty, and systemic bias. In fall 2024, LAC launched the South Bronx Literacy Academy in NYC, the nation’s first public K-8 school designed specifically for struggling readers. Beyond founding schools, LAC supports large-scale district professional development, teacher mentoring, and policy advocacy to replicate successful literacy models across the city.
